CCTV with smart detection: what works and what does not

Smart detection promises fewer false alarms and faster response. In practice the result depends on control room setup and clear response agreements.

Security officer reviewing camera footage

More clients combine camera surveillance with on-image detection. The technology filters people and vehicles out of noise such as rain, insects or moving branches. That reduces alerts, but it does not replace an officer.

Where the gains are

  • Fewer false alarms, so more attention for real incidents.

  • Faster verification: the control room watches along and decides the response.

  • Better reporting, because every incident is logged with image and timestamp.

Where it goes wrong

Without clear response agreements an alert stays an alert. Record per site who attends, when the police are called and how the client is informed afterwards.
