Retail security by Kilic Security

Retail security that actually knows your shop

A busy Saturday on the high street. A supermarket just before closing. A clothing store where the fitting rooms sit around the corner. Retail security puts someone on the floor who knows what shoplifting looks like, how to keep customers at ease, and when to step in.

With us you get a small fixed team for your location and one point of contact who knows your store, your staff and your regulars. Short lines, a roster that fits your opening hours, and reports you can scan back through without searching.

The same store officer, week in and week out

Rotating crews see less. We assign a small fixed team to your store, so the same people keep coming back. They know your collection, your staff and your regulars, and spot unusual behaviour faster than someone there for the first time.

What is retail security?

Retail security, often called store security, is the structured protection of a shop, department store or shopping centre against shoplifting, fraud, aggression and internal shrinkage. A retail security officer watches the shop floor, picks up on suspicious behaviour, supports your staff and intervenes when needed.

In practice it's usually a combination: store surveillance during peak hours, mystery shopper visits to audit your team and processes, and CCTV monitoring as the closing layer. You pick what fits your format and your risk, and we set it up.

What does a store security officer do?

A store security officer is the eyes and ears of your shop floor. The work is largely preventive: visibly or discreetly present, picking up signals and keeping things from getting out of hand. A typical shift includes:

  • Store surveillance on the shop floor and at entry and exit points
  • Recognising suspicious behaviour and approaching shoplifters
  • Supporting staff during aggression, difficult customers or internal alerts
  • Access control at the warehouse, office and staff entrance
  • Watching CCTV together with the control room
  • Support with opening, closing and cash-handling procedures
  • Apprehending offenders caught in the act and handover to police by protocol
  • Logging incidents and notable events digitally for you

A good shop day is a quiet day: less theft, no incidents and customers who come back with a good feeling.

Our retail security services

We deliver four core services for retail, deployed separately or as a full package per location:

  • Store surveillance: visible or plain-clothes officers who watch the shop floor, recognise suspicious behaviour and prevent shoplifting before it happens.
  • Mystery shopper and mystery guest: an officer visits your store undercover, observes staff and processes and delivers a concrete report with improvement points.
  • Access control: strict control at the warehouse, office and staff entrance, so only authorised staff and suppliers come in.
  • CCTV monitoring and alarm response: live monitoring of your camera feeds, verified alarm response and evidence if something does happen.

Many retailers combine store surveillance during the day with quarterly mystery shopper visits and CCTV with control-room support outside opening hours. We put together the mix that fits your format.

Mystery shopper and mystery guest

A mystery shopper is a trained officer or observer who visits your store anonymously and behaves like a regular customer. The goal: objectively assess how your staff, processes and shop floor are doing in practice, without anyone knowing they're being watched.

After the visit you receive a structured report covering:

  • Customer approach, hospitality and sales skills of your staff
  • Compliance with internal procedures at the till, fitting room and warehouse
  • Visibility and effectiveness of your security measures
  • Possible vulnerabilities to shoplifting or internal fraud
  • Concrete recommendations to lower shrinkage and raise service

Mystery shopper visits work best as a periodic audit: once a quarter or once a month, optionally combined with unannounced night checks or integrity investigations when internal theft is suspected.

Retail security by sector

No two retail formats are the same. A supermarket has different peaks than a fashion store, a department store different risks than a jeweller. We work for clients across:

  • Supermarkets and fresh-food specialists: till support, aggression prevention and closing assistance
  • Fashion and clothing stores: fitting-room security, warehouse access control and plain-clothes store surveillance
  • Department stores and shopping centres: fixed posts at entry and exit points, coordination with multiple tenants
  • Luxury and high-end retail: discreet security, host duties and VIP guidance
  • Electronics stores and jewellers: high-risk guarding, alarm response and transport escort
  • Pharmacies, DIY and hardware stores: store surveillance across large floor areas

Per sector we tailor the dress code, behaviour and approach of our officers to your format. For remote camera monitoring and alarm response, see our CCTV monitoring page.

Store officer, plain-clothes surveillance or CCTV only?

Many retailers are stuck between a visible store officer, plain-clothes surveillance or cameras only. The choice depends on what you want to achieve and what shrinkage is costing you.

In practice the combination works best: a visible officer at peak moments, plain-clothes surveillance on high-risk days and CCTV with control-room support as the closing layer. Mystery shopper visits add insight into your staff and processes.

What does retail security cost?

There's no single hourly rate we can honestly quote here. The price of store security depends on:

  • Hours per week and which time blocks (evenings, weekends and public holidays count differently)
  • The risk profile of your store, sector and location
  • Deployment type: visible store officer, plain-clothes surveillance or mystery shopper
  • Number of locations and whether you want nationwide coverage
  • Any extra requirements: emergency response, first aid, dog handler, apprehension authority or multilingual staff
  • Contract length and how flexible it needs to be

After a short intake you receive a tailored, no-obligation quote. For standard cases within 1 working day, for urgent requests within 24 hours.
