Hire a service officer

A service officer combines hospitality with supervision: friendly at the front, alert to what is happening around them. The right choice where a security officer is too heavy and a receptionist too light.

Service officer security: service and supervision in one role

More and more clients choose a service officer instead of a classic security officer. At events, in municipal public halls, at care institutions and in retail entrances the need is no longer just safety, but above all hospitality, information and supervision in one person.

Our service officers welcome visitors, check tickets or ages, give directions and keep a discreet eye on things at the same time. They signal, support and de-escalate; enforcement remains the work of a security officer with a Dutch BV-pas licence. That gives you a lower threshold for visitors, a larger staffing pool and often a more favourable rate, without compromising on order and safety.

Friendly at the front, alert at the back

Your visitors feel welcomed and helped. Meanwhile our service officer knows exactly who is where, who behaves oddly and where it is getting too busy. Calm, oversight and hospitality in one person: that is service officer security at its best.

What does a service officer do?

A service officer is a hospitable, hands-on person who welcomes, informs and guides visitors. At the same time they watch the atmosphere, crowd levels and behaviour, and address people who do not respect the house rules. The role sits between a host and a security officer.

Unlike a security officer, a service officer is primarily service-oriented. A Dutch BV-pas licence is not required for pure supervision and service work, but targeted training in hospitality, signalling, de-escalation and handling confused or agitated visitors is. In the case of a real security incident, the service officer escalates to a colleague security officer or our control room.

In the industry this role is also called security host, host or service officer security. Under all these names we mean the same thing: someone who makes the most important role of the organisation visible (welcome, help, clarity) and who is also a set of eyes and ears for your security chain.

  • De-escalation in case of tension, aggression or confused visitors
  • Support during evacuation, first aid and emergencies

Retail, offices and education:

  • Hospitable reception and visitor registration
  • Discreet supervision at the entrance and in public areas
  • Opening and closing rounds and handover to colleagues
  • Fixed point of contact for visitors, suppliers and employees

Standard in Dutch and English, additional languages on request. You get a fixed team with a fixed backup, briefed on your house rules and systems.

For which organisations?

A service officer fits anywhere with a lot of public and where atmosphere, safety and customer friendliness must come together. Among others we work for:

  • Event organisers, festivals, conferences and public days
  • Municipalities, public desks and city halls
  • Hospitals, clinics and care institutions
  • Schools, colleges and universities
  • Retail chains, shopping centres and flagship stores
  • Offices and multi-tenant buildings
  • Museums, libraries and public buildings
  • Housing corporations, sports complexes and swimming pools

Looking for a purely representative reception? See our receptionist page. Is it mainly about supervision in public spaces or on large sites? See supervisor. Want service and security in one package? Combine with event security or hospitality security.

Service officer vs. security officer vs. host

The roles look similar, but the difference in authority, training and appearance is significant. This table helps you quickly make the right choice.

How we work

From intake to daily reporting we keep it clear. Four steps, no surprises.

  2. 02

    Service profile and conduct protocol

Tone of address, dress code, languages, NIX18 and house rules and de-escalation approach are captured in a profile that fits your organisation.

What does a service officer cost?

There is no fixed hourly rate. What a service officer costs depends on:

  • Structural deployment or event basis (one-off deployment and urgency have a different price)
  • Number of service officers and time slots (evenings, weekends and holidays are priced differently)
  • Languages, dress code and representation requirements
  • Whether a BV-pas licence is required at the location
  • Extra services such as first aid, emergency response, ticket checks with scanners or closing rounds
  • Contract duration, number of locations and notice period

Generally a service officer sits below the hourly rate of a certified security officer, while the hospitality and contact with visitors score even higher. After a short intake you receive a no-obligation tailored quote: standard within 1 business day, in case of urgency within 24 hours.

Certifications and quality

We select our service officers on attitude, language skills and stress resistance. We go beyond the legal minimum requirements:

Our quality system is safeguarded by our certifications and membership of the Dutch Security Industry Association.
